This weeks All Axess ‘Amped artist’ is independent metal band Deliver Us From Evil. The live film clip to their song ‘Death Mortar’ can be found below.
Based out of Evansville, Indiana, Deliver Us From Evil was formed in 2004 by guitarist John Matheis and drummer Alex Morgan. The band started out covering songs by Pantera, Metallica and Megadeth, while simultaneously developing original material. In 2005, vocalist Brent Vaughn and bassist Jeff Thomas hopped on board, and Deliver Us From Evil was officially unleashed on their local music scene.
Deliver Us From Evil first distinguished themselves by playing three hour sets on Wednesday nights at a local bar, which consisted of covers by the aforementioned bands as well as old-school Slipknot, Mudvayne, Lamb of God, Chimaira, and many more. Since the band’s inception, the tightness and precision of their performances has been consistently regarded as exceptional.
As time went on, Deliver Us From Evil began spreading out and gaining fans by performing in bigger cities around their region in the United States, including Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Louisville, Nashville Cincinnati, and Indianapolis. They’ve also shared the stage with bands like The Black Dahlia Murder, Unearth, Battlecross, Goatwhore, God Forbid, Dååth, Origin, Drowning Pool, In This Moment, and many more.
In 2008, Deliver Us From Evil released their debut album, entitled ‘Behold A Pale Horse,’ which includes hard-hitting songs like ‘Only Ashes Remain,’ ‘Profit,’ ‘Surviving the Storm,’ ‘Diabotic’ and ‘Until Tomorrow.’ In 2009, John Matheis’s cousin and current band mate Chris Yokel expressed interest in joining the band as a second guitarist after completing his military enlistment, which would end late in 2010. A plan was set, and in order to focus on writing material for two guitars, Mike Van Bibber, a well-known local guitarist and friend was recruited to perform as the second guitarist during the interim.
In 2010, Deliver Us From Evil made their way to Audiohammer Studios to record a 3-song EP, working with Eyal Levi (Dååth) and acclaimed hard rock / heavy metal music producer Mark Lewis. Entitled ‘Still I Rise,’ the EP was met with critical acclaim. Axl Rosenberg at Metalsucks.net stated in a review that Deliver Us From Evil are, “like eight million times better than half the bands publicists and label reps send us every day.”
Later that year, Chris Yokel returned to his hometown to complete the full-time lineup of Deliver Us From Evil, and since then, the band has been working with an unwavering mission to reach new audiences through their music. Earlier this year, the band has acquired new management with Full Force Entertainment and a non-exclusive booking deal with Dungeon Promotions, and they don’t plan on losing momentum anytime soon. Deliver Us From Evil is currently underway in the writing and recording of their second album and looking for all opportunities to bring their live show to their current and future fans.
