All Axess recently sat down with Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier to talk about the new Gojira album ‘L’Enfant Sauvage’ and ask him what the secret to the band’s longevity is. Part two of the interview can be found below.
‘L’Enfant Sauvage’ was released in June this year and entered The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 34 and peaked at No. 7 in Gojira’s homeland of France; making it the band’s most successful release to date.
Duplantier said that although ‘L’Enfant Sauvage’ does contain a clear message throughout, it isn’t a concept album. “This album is not a concept album…there is a common vibe behind everything of course, because it’s a picture of what Gojira is now…there’s a reflection on life in general and our condition as human beings.”
Duplantier’s thought-provoking lyrics for ‘L’Enfant Sauvage’ were inspired by the question, ‘What is freedom?’ “If freedom is independence…the more you [are] independent, the more you are responsible and you have to be responsible, otherwise you just fail and you die,” Duplantier philosophized. “This question was in my mind the whole time when I was writing, but it’s definitely not a concept album; it’s like what we [Gojira] are today.”
