Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has announced that the renowned thrash band will begin the recording process of the follow-up album to 2011s ‘THIRT3EN’ this week.

Yesterday (August 22), in a post to Twitter, Mustaine revealed that Megadeth would once again be working with producer Johnny K: “Johnny K. is arriving tomorrow to start pre-production on our new record. This should be a very interesting record.”

Johnny K. is a Grammy Award nominated producer/engineer/mixer/musician and songwriter. He previously worked with Megadeth on ‘THIRT3EN,’ and has produced several well known hard rock and metal albums for the likes of Disturbed, Staind and Machine Head.

In a recent interview with NME, Mustaine described the material he had written for the new album so far: “Some of it’s a little darker; some of it’s a little faster,” he said.

However, Mustaine appended that the album was not yet tied down to any particular sound: “Being in this position right now, not knowing where we’re gonna go or what we’re gonna do, it’s kind of like the world’s ours to do what we want. Are we gonna go back to the speed and thrash metal roots that made us who we are? Are we gonna experiment and rely on the melody that we’ve discovered in Megadeth songs?”

Stay tuned for more details.
