Former Smashing Pumpkins and rotating A Perfect Circle guitarist James Iha has unveiled the first single from his upcoming solo album ‘Look To The Sky.’ The track, ‘To Who Knows Where’ can be heard below.
‘Look To The Sky’ was recorded and co-produced by Iha and ex-Shudder To Think guitarist Nathan Larson at Iha’s Stratosphere Sound studio in New York City. In an official statement, a spokesperson for Iha stated that the recording sessions were, “designed to create an atmosphere of freedom, experimentation and shared fondness for a variety of enduring genres: from bright, modern rock, to 60s nuggets and cool, clean 80s new wave.”
The album is Iha’s second solo album, following on from his 1998 debut ‘Let It Come Down.’ “I wanted this record to be more eclectic and reflect all of my taste, which is why it took so long,” Iha explained. “It was important to me, for the record, to be multi-dimensional and complex. Being a part of the Smashing Pumpkins, and working with so many other bands and artists since my last album gave me a fresh perspective on what music could be.”
Several guest artists appear on the album, including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O and Nick Zinner, Tegan And Sara’s Sara Quin, Fountains Of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger, Antony & the Johnsons and Television guitarist Tom Verlaine.
Iha said that collaborating with other artists helped to give the album more depth. “Working with all of these talented people helped the record evolve in great and unexpected ways.”
He concluded: “I feel like everything should lead up to something and this is a culmination of my journey.”
‘Look To The Sky’ is set for a September 18 release date.
