Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno has taken some time out from the bands U.K. arena tour, to talk about their upcoming New Years Eve’s gig at the 02 Arena, in London.
Speaking with the Evening Standard, Pizzorno explained that the crowd will be in for a whole lot more than just your run of the mill performance. In fact, the audience will dictate, to a degree, what the atmosphere will be like. “The more energy and movement there is, the more the lights will change…What we’re trying to achieve is that really euphoric, amazing feeling you get from the big dance acts.”
After the release of their third consecutive U.K. chart-topping album, ‘Velociraptor!’ in September of this year, Kasabian have been busy promoting and touring the record. The bands’ frontman, Tom Meighan says that, the new material has gone down well live. “We’ve nailed ‘em,” Meighan said. He continued by crediting Pizzorn’s well-written songs for the crowd’s favorable reception, “We’ve got these big marching songs, like a stampede of rhinos coming at you. People get this glory feeling from our gigs.”
Pizzorno, who is the chief songwriter for Kasabian says that while he will continue to write music, he refuses to be bogged down, by having to stick to any particular genre or image. “I don’t want us to have a sound or a way that anyone expects us to be,” the guitarist explained. “Since the start it’s been very hard to pin us down. I’d hate to make an old song mark two – that depresses the f**k out of me.”
