Machine Head guitarist/vocalist Robb Flynn and guitarist Phil Demmel were interviewed at the recent Graspop festival in Belgium. Check it out in the video below.
During the interview, Flynn and Demmel discussed whether or not they thought the world would end on December 21, as some say the Maya civilization predicted, several millennia ago.
Flynn is certain that the human race will live to see 2013. “ F**k yeah. December 21st ‘aint doing shit to us,” he said.
Demmel added that if the prophecies were true, then doomsday would have already occurred. “I don’t think that the Mayan calendar included any leap years, so it was supposed to happen five years ago,” he explained. “I think we made it; we’re alright.”
The duo also spoke about what it was like recording the song ‘Who We Are’ from their latest album ‘Unto The Locust’ with their children. “There was Robb’s kids, my son and our engineer/producer’s [Juan Urteaca] daughters,” Demmel recalled. “It was a quintet of our kids, and it was awesome.”
Flynn said that up until the release of ‘Unto The Locust,’ his kids had never appreciated Machine Head. “I’ve always tried to sneak a Machine Head song in here and there. We’d be driving in the car and they’d be like, ‘I don’t want to hear this.’ They were only two at the time. Now they’re like, ‘yeah put in…’”
