Legendary metal vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera, from Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy, spoke with Rock Radio at the current U.K. Sonisphere festival at Knebworth House.

Cavalera described some of his backstage encounters with various rock gods over the years.

“You get a lot of meetings with people you didn’t really expect, which is cool. For example me and Igor just met Duff from Gun N’ Roses, and we didn’t know that he was a fan, it was really surprising, you know, cuz I never thought anyone from Guns N’ Roses even new Sepultura existed… he was like I love you guys, I really enjoy your music.”

Cavalera concedes that there are plenty of musicians that aren’t exactly approachable; “I have to say there is some arrogance, that goes on sometimes. One year we did a festival and Aerosmith was headlining and they blocked their entire dressing room area with like white clothes so that nobody could even see them. And I thought that was f@#$ing bullshit.”

He went on to focus his discontent on Fred Durst’s, perhaps slightly over the top, backstage security; “I see Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit walking with two black guys. It’s stupid man, nobody cares, nobody gonna attack you in a dressing room. You’re in between bands, nobody from a band gonna attack you, you don’t have to worry about that s@#t… that and like what Aerosmith did, that was pure bulls@#t , I have no respect for that.”

It seems that the Cavalera name will be spoken amongst metal fans for a long time to come. Cavalera’s son, who was named after Max’s brother Igor, has started to play guitar with his Dad and Uncle on stage; “I bring my kids onstage and do ‘Cockroaches,’ which is a Nailbomb song. Igor plays guitar and he goes completely mad, he jumps all over the stage, you know he’s really possessed… he already broke like three guitars.”
