Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and WWE wrestler/Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho have announced they will host two spoken word shows during their forthcoming visit to Australia.
Both Fozzy and Anthrax will be in Australia as part of the sold-out Soundwave festival in February and March. Ian and Jericho will give spoken-word performances in Sydney and Melbourne during the festivals one week break.
Ian said that a spoken word show is something he’s wanted to do for a very long time. “I’ve been travelling the world in the company of and hanging out with the greatest people on the planet for 31 years and I’ve got to tales to tell.”
Furthermore, Ian will embark on a full spoken-word tour of the UK in mid-2013. However, in a recent interview with Metal Hammer, the Anthrax guitarist explained that he preferred to use an alternative terminology to a ‘spoken-word’ tour: “I’m calling it ‘Speaking Words’ because the pretension of saying I am doing a ‘Spoken Word’ tour is too much to bear,” he said. “This ain’t no poetry reading. This isn’t an evening of sensitive discourse.”
He expounded: “It’s an evening of ridiculous truth. It’s me talking (swearing) about this insane life I’ve led over the last 31 years, the people I’ve met and the shit that’s happened. And when I’m done swearing, you can ask me anything you want, the floor is yours.”
