A song composed by revered Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, titled ‘Lonely Planet’ will be sung at the upcoming Eurovision song contest in Sweden by Armenian representative Gor Sujyan. It can be heard below.
Sujyan performed four songs during the Armenian national final before a studio panel and TV audience voted the track written by Iommi as their favorite.
Iommi commented on the announcement in a statement issued on his official website: “Well here’s something different, one of my demo ideas has been chosen as the Armenian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest!” Iommi wrote. “It went on a short list and Saturday night was voted as the winner. I did the music and the performing band Dorians wrote the lyrics, it’s called ‘Lonely Planet.’”
The Black Sabbath founding member went on to praise Gor Sujyan: “They’re a good band,” he said. “…the singer has a really good voice and the lyrics they’ve written are in English. It now goes to the semi-final on May 16th in Malmo, Sweden. “
The dates set for the two Eurovision semi-finals are May 14 and May 16, with the final taking place on the evening of May 18, 2013.
