UltimateGuitar.com recently asked its readers who they thought were the best guitar shredders in history. The top ten highest ranking can be found below.
The site first defined what a shredder is: “Shredding has a loose definition, but it can include sweep-picked arpeggios, finger tapping and wailing whammy bar action. Ultimately, is has to kick ass.”
Several greats made the list, including Dimebag Darrell, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and John Petrucci. However, it was Racer X and Mr. Big guitarist Paul Gilbert who emerged the victor.
Gilbert has been noted for his incredible technical ability by several publications, including GuitarOne magazine, who ranked him number 4 of the ‘Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time,’ and Guitar World, who listed him among the ’50 Fastest Guitarists of All Time.’
