Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Bill Kelliher has sat down with PWRUP.de to talk about his favorite video games, as well as what he would blow up if he ever got his hands on a tank. The video interview can be viewed below.
In another recent interview, Kelliher and fellow vocalist/bass player Troy Sanders spoke with STV about how the band has grown since making their last album ‘Crack The Skye’ to their current, Grammy nominated album ‘The Hunter.’ “[With] ‘Crack The Skye’ we didn’t really have a cut-off date, like a date when we were going to be in the studio and have to be done,”Kelliher explained. “So we kind of dragged on and we really sunk our teeth in it. We rehearsed every song, every possible way it could be arranged; we kind of really pounded it to death…”
Mastodon’s latest album ‘The Hunter’ was released last year and saw the band take their sounds to even greater heights. Kelliher says that this is because a fresh approach was taken. “With ‘The Hunter,’ we just totally broke out of that mould. It was a spontaneous album where we just said, ‘hey, I gotta couple of riffs, here they are.’ ‘Okay cool lets record it, let’s not dwell on it.’… Within like two and a half months we had the whole thing written, recorded and almost done.”
After the success of ‘The Hunter’ expectations are high for the follow-up and Kelliher is confident the band will deliver. However, always the realist he admits there is a chance they may fall short. “I can’t forsee the future. Who knows, maybe the next record will be like ‘Well; we’re all stumbling around with ideas’, but I’m pretty confident that we have plenty of material for the next record, and it’ll probably go just as smooth as last time.”
