One of the most influential and respected guitarists of the modern era, Slash has taken some time out from promoting his latest album, ‘Apocalyptic Love’ to talk exclusively with All Axess about what career path he would have chosen had music not worked out. Check it out below.
Slash said that as a child, he had always aspired to become a professional motocross racer, and at one point, he was a pro BMX rider. However, the revered guitarist added that as well as not being able to afford the equipment required to launch a career on the professional racing circuit, he would have most probably grown out of it. Instead, he believes he would have pursued his other passion – drawing. “The one talent that I was born with was the ability to draw and illustrate… that would have been probably what I ended up doing as a career.”
While Slash may not have been destined to become a professional artist, he still reaches for a pencil and paper whenever the need arises. “I doodle a lot. I design logos for the groups I’m in, and tattoos when I need a tattoo and anything else that is necessary for me to draw.”
There is little doubt that Slash’s creativity is in the blood. “I have a seven-year old son who is definitely very talented in that area, so I spend a lot of time teaching him stuff about drawing and how to draw.”
