Stone Sour guitarist Josh Rand has taken some time out to give All Axess an exclusive rundown of his live gear. The video can be found below.
In this segment, Rand goes over his much-loved Hughes & Kettner TriAmp MKII, which provides him with his desired tone both live and in the studio, as well as his pedalboard, complete with his specially modified Kirk Hammett wah-pedal and of course, his killer collection of touring guitars.
One of Rand’s stand out guitars is his Ibanez SA custom. “It’s EMG loaded. It’s got an 81 in the bridge, an 85 in the neck, three-way [switch]… This guitar is amazing,” he explained.
Another of the guitarists’ notable axes is his aluminum plated Ibanez RG. “I actually did this myself,” Rand commented. “It took me like fourteen to sixteen hours of work… It’s actually riveted into the guitar itself so there was a lot of pre-drilling and calculating. I think we added it up and there is 132 rivets in this guitar…I have cut myself on this twice.”
Many of Rand’s guitars come with either the tone knob not wired up, or without one at all. The guitarist says that this is simply because he has no need for it. “The rumor has it that it does draw something from the 9-volt having the tone hooked up since they’re active. I honestly have never sat down and analyzed that, whether it’s the truth or not I just never use it, so what’s the point of having it?”

I loved this video! That’s a great presentation on guitars, specially to Josh’s fans, like me ^_^
Pity that the sound is a little bit noisy
